How to Make Your Skinny Jeans into Boot Cut Jeans

November 24, 2015 Emily Waechtler
Make Your Skinny Jeans into Boot Cut Jeans

These skinny jeans look great on Ruby, but she's just not comfortable in the tight jean leg silhouette.  She's a boot cut girl through and through.  I bought these cute embroidered skinny jeans for Ruby a few months back in desperation. She was running out of clothes, but we couldn't find any new ones that "fit" and were her "style".  Anyone else have this problem with their thirteen year old?

We decided to take her only pair of jeans, that just didn't fit any more, and use those to turn her cute new ones into a boot cut leg.  I did a bit of seam ripping up to about the knee on the skinny jeans, then inserted a triangular chunk from the leg of the old jean. You may find it helpful to look at this step by step tutorial from Hello Natural.

Once we used the legs of the old jeans to fill in the legs of the new jeans, we still had enough left over to make some cut-offs.  The old jeans still fit Ruby around the waste, they were too short as pants, and a bit too tight on the thigh for shorts.  We cut them as short as she prefers, and again, added a triangular gusset along the leg to give these shorts a comfortable fit. One old pair of jeans, turned into two functioning new wardrobe staples.  I can't tell you how happy this makes me.

Oh man am I itching to get back outside after this extra long cold I’ve had! I’m really missing all that fresh air and those hidden treasures. What do you miss most when your down with a cold?
Rainbow neutrals.
I’ve been sick all week. Curled up right here on the couch. Thankful that after 16 years of motherhood, I finally get time to rest while being sick. It’s a luxury that I’m not taking for granted. All those mixed emotions come rising to the surface of watching your babies turn into teens, and we all know what happens next... 🕊
It’s freezing outside, but I got some sunshine on the inside! Except even these sunny Chamomiles didn’t prevent my kombucha from growing a layer of mold, ewwwww. They say mold grows with too much acidity or too cold of temps. I’m guessing its the cold temps. 🌼
Cozy boy outfit on point! Loving this look put together by mama @kindred_indigo! 🌱Romper by @bearandthewoodsco, 🌱necklace by @bluemoonholistics, 🌱 bonnet by me!
Yesterday’s quick nature walk in between rain showers. I slid into a tide pool and got my feet all wet, @markbro41 and Ginger had an ice plant fight, and we spotted some beautiful fresh mushrooms. An all around good time!
This little guy showing off his dance moves! Even babies know how to get the party started. I don’t know why I’m surprised every time I get a spontaneous dance time how my mood instantly elevates. Why do I not have a dance party everyday I don’t know! Thanks for this adorable photo @locallie_mine !
